We are lucky enough to live pretty central to some weekly and monthly markets. If you, like us like a good trawl though the old and new items, as well as a good vegetable or fruit market you have come to the right place.

Fundao Farmers Market. Home to the world famous Fundao cherries, the market is clothing, bricabrac, trees, tools, fruit and vege, shoes, pulses and beans and lots more. The market is held every Monday, just aim your satnav at Mercado Municipal do Fundão. It closes around 1 to 2pm.
Valverde del Fresno about 25km away, just over the border in Spain, is a lovely local Spanish market. Meats, cheeses, clothes, and fresh produce (fish etc) are all on display here, and its a lovely village to get some Tapas too. The market is on every Thursday – remember Spain is 1hour ahead, so 9am Portugal is 10am Spain time.
Relva market, Monsanto. Head for Monsanto, and as you start to go up to the peak, you will pass the beautiful medieval village of Relva. The market is on the last Sunday of the month. From June the market is 6pm to 10pm, and and the end of Summer it changes back to 11am start. Its classed as an artisan market, and its mainly food, crafts, and jewelery. There are not many traditional Portuguese stalls, but this may change the longer the market runs for.
Penamacor Bio Market, located by the hospital in Penamacor. This is a great place for fruit and veg, and organic products. If you are vegan or vegetarian this could be your ideal market for food. The market takes place on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month 10am until 2pm, and also has people selling woodcrafts, woollen creations and more. Its a small sized market, but worth checking out.

Penamacor Village Market, in the Camara car park every other Wednesday (from 15th of June). A lot of clothes, bedding, sheets, towels and some shoes and trainers, (Tennis in Portuguese). A few Portuguese souvenir stalls to get some traditional items, like pottery etc. The market starts early and runs to about 2pm. Again, this and all markets above are free.
Benquerenca Village Market is quite big, with selers from all over exhibiting their goods on the 1st Wednesday of every month. This is one of the bigger markets in the area, and sells many, many different goods.
Aldeia do Bispo village markets, is a nice way to waste an hour wondering the stalls. It takes place next to the central football ground in Aldeia (5km from Penamacor town), every second Saturday of the Month. The good thing is its mainly covered – so in the crazy hot summers we have, its a nice contrast.
BioEco market Alpedrinha every Sunday, is another good one for foodies. Lots of veg, fruit, meats and cheeses. We have heard from the local community that this market is excellent for produce. It is also, every Sunday.
Penha Garcia village market, takes place on the 1st Saturday of the month and is will worth checking out if you are in the area, climbing or visiting the amazing Geopark.

There are a lot more markets in the area, its worth checking with us for any latest changes or times as some of the markets change time for Summer, and some even change location just to make things more confusing. We can always ask people who sell at the markets to get the most up-to-date times and locations.
